Het bouwen gaat door!

September 2016:

2 augustus: The contractor said biggest problem would be on the side of getting more materials from Uganda, however, it has been said that the borders are open and vehicles have started moving. The contractor said that the biggest challenge as he heard is some parts of the road that have been broken down by floods. The issue of political instability caused a lot tension to many people and many of them ran to the neigbouring countries. Therefore I can only say that we are not sure how long the tension will go on. The government has announced that all businesses should operate normally and people should go back to their work as the government is in full control of everything.
I am looking forward to seeing the classroom being used - and God willing, next year, target to do more. Running from Thon-Aduel and Mapuordit has not been that easy for me.
I find a lot of joy and fulfillment when I see that the work we are engaged in is taking a positive shape.
Again, assure Tanne, her school mates/ classmates, teachers, parents, friends and all who were involved in the raising of the money for the classroom that I strongly stand to see that their dream of building a classroom for the support of education in South Sudan, specifically in Thon-Aduel, is going to be actualized. All I beg from them is to be patient and give me enough time to work on that. I do not want to rush and come up with a poor building that is going to be ruined soon. South Sudan needs a lot of patience but I am determined to raise that classroom in due time. Let them count this done!

Boniface

26 augustus: Please, see some photographs showing the progress of the building of the primary one classroom. After studying the soil in Thon-Aduel and with the help of the engineer and the contractor, we came to a conclusion that the primary one classroom has to be built with very strong material. We agreed that the foundation should go up to a depth of 1.5 meters deep. Then, a slab of 8 inches had erected. The slab would be lying on a Y10 wire of 4 roles. The slab would be treated of 7 good days and after the seven days, erect three layers of cement blocks. These layers would be treated thoroughly for three to four days and then, on top of it erect the a beam of Y12 wire. All the top - black cotton soil is to be removed and marrum of quality standard be bought and brought to fill in before the building of the slab in the house. We shall use BRC of A142 as it is the only wire that can do well in this soil. All the pillars are standing on Y12 wire and all the beams shall be of Y12 wire. Originally, the classroom was designed to be 8 m long by 6 m wide and a corridor of 1.5 m. We decided to change this to 9 m long by 8 m wide and a corridor of 2 m. The reason is that Thon-Aduel has a very big population and such a small classroom as it had been designed initially would not accommodate such a big number. Please, see the attached pictures. 27 augustus na ernstige regenval bracht dit bericht: "Just informed that the river over flew last night and the trucks bringing stones were forced to go back to Rumbek town. Too sad for me because I had arranged to have the classroom ready by the end of September 2016. I have all the other materials on the site but stones now is hooking me. All needed cement blocks are ready and all the other building materials. Hoping that the water level will go down soon.

2 september: Concreting ground beam is over in primary one classroom. Also all needed timber for roofing is ready. We are soon getting there. It is not going to be a surprise.

6 september: the primary one classroom is as well progressing well. See the attached picture.
Trucks bringing marrum for the primary one classroom. See also that the marrum that we are using is very good quality marrum. The back filling exercise in primary one classroom and compacting with the compressor is going on at present. Soon, we shall have the classroom under slab process and once this exercise is finished, raising of the wall shall take very short time since we have all the needed cement blocks in place. Once that is over, the roofing exercise shall kick off as we have all the timber needed for the roofing ready in the store. We may have a small challenge with the stones but I am working on plan B for that. No much fear on that. Great thanks, great appreciations for the funds to get the primary one classroom furnished.
Thanking you all.
Regards,
Fr. Boniface
